Arizona + Wine = Good

 Blood into Wine is about winemakers in Jerome, Arizona .  The twist - it focuses on the lead singer from Tool -  who made a big move from CA to AZ to pursue his new calling.  It is pretty good (and free on Netflix).  My favorite parts are the shots of Arizona.  The opening credits are lovely.  In the film - I could have sworn he said he had a wine called "Sonchia" - but I have failed to find it online.

This weekend (early edition)...

This weekend is all about Mountainfilm. This film festival's annual event is this weekend - full of movies, parties, discussions, and general mayhem - it is always a great time. If you don't know, Mountainfilm's festival celebrates mostly documentary films that focus on the environment, cultures, travel, and adventure. There are amazing guest speakers & incredible filmmakers in town who spend their lives trying to make the world a better place. I will probably be off the radar until after the weekend - but while I am away, make sure to check out the Mountainfilm website and see all that is happening around here this weekend. I am really looking forward to seeing Sons of Perdition & Waste Land. I am also very excited to see two of our local filmmakers shine this year - check out their trailers below. See you all on the other side!

The Last Picture Show

I do not know how I waited so long to see The Last Picture Show.  Set in a small town in west Texas, the cinematography is beautiful with dusty, desolate images of a changing town.  It is Cybil Shepard's first movie and Jeff Bridges is so cute and young. The music is mostly old Hank Williams tunes.  I highly recommend adding this to your Netflix.

I love that A Cup of Jo posted about this PBS series today - I was going to mention it as well! After watching the first installment of Emma, I literally pulled out my calendar and noted when installments 2 & 3 were playing as to remind myself not to miss this show. Sigh, don't you just love Jane Austen? Catch up on the first episode here. Seriously, this series is wonderful & is not to be missed.

I know this won't be coming to Telluride anytime soon, but I look forward to seeing this at some point. "Creation" is a unique and inside look at Charles Darwin, his family and his
love for his deeply religious wife, whose faith contradicted his work. Torn between faith and science, this movie shows Darwin as he struggles to finish his legendary book “On the Origin of Species,” which goes on to become the foundation for evolutionary biology.
The science nerd in me is bursting with excitement.

Presents - He loves them all & spent a good long time this
morning intensely focused on the gifts under the tree.

Decorating - Justin said he really liked cutting out the snowflakes together for our tree this year.
He said it was also a lot of fun cutting down our own tree this year.
He also bought poinsettias this year (on his own) to make our house more "festive."

Les Parapluies de Cherbourg

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg) a French musical made in 1964 is a must see for any design/fashion/color/geek. It is lovely. The wallpaper in the movie matches the characters' outfits. I thought of you Sonchia because of your love of the wallpaper (here here and here ). The outfits are amazing. This movie was luckily playing for free at The Loft in Tucson. My suggestion - rent with girlfriends and "ooh" and "aah" over all the beauty!

Let it snow!

Blizzard - that is the word of the day. We are expected to receive over two (yep - I said two) feet of snow here over the next 24 hours. Here is a video from my favorite Felt Soul Media boys (whom I mentioned here) that will show you a little about our Telluride winters & our ski terrain.

I don't get it. The books (I tried - I could barely get through the first one), the movies, or why people think this guy is handsome or interesting. Sorry, I know I am in the minority here, but if anyone wants to try & convince me otherwise they are welcome to do so. Seriously, I don't get it.
