The Shed.

Finally. After months and months of waiting - MCB finally closed on his first house. It is all very exciting. MCB is now the proud owner of a 491 sq. ft. historic (free standing!) alley shed in Telluride. Lots of work will be done over the course of the next couple of weeks and I hope to share some of the projects here in the blog. Heading out at lunch today to help pick out paint. I can't wait to see this cute little place evolve.

In the meantime, here is the decision du jour. Rafters. First off, this photo was taken during the first visit to the shed, when the renters were still living there. So, pay no attention to the gross decor. Ugh. Instead, notice the rafters. The thought is this - paint the ceiling "ceiling white." The trim will be "atrium white." The walls will be a nice warm green, gray, khaki type of color called "ashwood." All Benjamin Moore (of course).

I think the rafters should stay wood, sort of rustic-like. MCB is thinking of white washing them.
Anyone else have a vote here?

Sonchia, I know that is random that I chime in....but being a designer you know I can't resist. Plus I am procrastinating. What if you do the window trim a dark grayish brownish color (like Pratt & lambert tobacco) and do the walls and ceiling a creamy white (p & l chalk gray is my face) then there will be no break line into the vault....maybe more advice than you wanted. Any who...

Missy - of course I love your design input...wish we could share ideas more often! Love your ideas of paint, but the boy wants to go with a lighter trim and neutral(ish) walls. I am trying my best to let him take the lead here with his first house, but the rafters things (whitewash) I am not so sure about.

At some point I would REALLY love to see your latest house/project to get some inspiration. Miss your eye.

The kids are adorable - keep the photos coming on FB!

I have so been waiting for more pics of this place and cannot wait to see the progress. Congrats Matt!! I like the raw wood. The contrast - the warmth of the wood.

i agree raw wood is nice for contrast. do you remember the house we stayed in in crested butte? they white washed the wood and it looked beachy and cute. but that house was really bright - lots of natural light. i vote for raw wood here. also, the ah haa's gallery walls are "atrium white" if you want to see it on some big walls.
